Bragging mode engaged:
Below are a bunch of new Egoboo spells or modifications of pre-existing ones by yours truely. Actually, all are modifications and/or combinations, but some are completely different from the original spells.
Disclaimer: Most of these spells have yet to be balanced as far as mana used, damage, etc, and some still have bugs. Some day I will get around to fixing some of them and I may also even figure out how to put them on EgoWiki.
Balefire
This spell first fires out blasts of yellow energy, as long as you hold the button down. This looks just like the breath weapon of the Watchers, which it is. After you let up the button, clouds of red sparking energy appear at the end of the yellow blasts and the yellow disappears. This red energy slowly seems to drift up and disappears eventually, but it will hurt anyone who wanders through it. (This spell was one of those fortunate mistakes where the results are nothing like you intended.) This spell does not have any sound to it, and I am unsure as to whether that’s a bad thing or not.
Burning Corpses
This spell is still being worked on. It will probably come in a few variations. The general gist is that instead of the green gas cloud of the Rotting Corpse spell, this makes corpses explode.
Continual Light
This spell is like the Faerie Light spell, but every light created pops up randomly in the room and stays there. Near as I can tell, you can make up to a certain number of lights (I haven’t counted, but it is a lot) before the computer or game engine can’t handle it anymore, you can’t make any more, and then any spell that lights up at all won’t work either. So, it is a fine spell, but use it sparingly, which shouldn’t be too hard. How many lights do you need in every room anyway?
Falling Ice
This spell is just like the Sword Wall spell, but uses the icicles from the Icicle spell.
Firebomb
Makes your character set down a burning orb that explodes in a fireball a moment later. Effect is pretty much the same as a Fireball.
Firelight
This is a little personalized spell. Instead of the ball of light in the Faerie Light spell, it is a ball of flame. Same thing, different package.
Red Light
Another personalized spell. It’s a Faerie Light with a red cast to it.
Firemissile
This is called Firmissile because I can’t think of a better name. It lobs a burning thing with a glittery trail at your enemies.
Fire Storm
This is a nice combo of the Book of Storms and the Fireball. Hit the button and a flash of fire lances down on an opponent. As an added touch, when it hits the ground or said opponent, it tosses a few fireballs around, possibly nailing some more bad guys.
Flaming Bind
Two versions here. One is just another personalized spell. Rings of harmless fire hold the bad guy up. The other version slowly roasts the bad guy as well as holds them up.
Flaming Death
This one will slowly burn bad guys when you hold the button down. Basically a Flaming Bind spell without the bind.
Spontaneous Combustion
Though Flaming Death was nasty? How about this baby, which toasts just about everything in about a second? Fun with large groups of ghouls, they just keep getting up and getting blown away. (It does have some trouble with monsters that have only certain angles they can be hit from. Maybe setting it to ignore armor would do the trick?)
Flamethrower
Exactly what it sounds like. Hold down the button and non-exploding fireballs pour from your character’s chest. Perfect for scouring that dungeon floor.
Flaming Claws
A poor man’s Burning Hands spell. Press the button and a vaguely claw-like flash of flame comes from your hand. Range is limited, but it works.
Flaming Teleport
This is just a personalized Teleport spell. Instead of blue light, you get fire (harmless).
Flare
Just a orange/red orb you toss like a fireball. Not so dangerous, but kind of cool looking.
Frosting
Basically the Frost Dog’s breath as a Burning Hands sort of spell.
Healing
This spell comes in two versions. Version one is the yellow healing of the Healer, and the other is the blue of the Paladin. Might not be such a good idea to have these in the game, as they take away from the Healer/Paladin’s coolness.
Inferno
Press this and fire flares up all around your character until you release the button. No sound yet, but wicked dangerous.
Poison Trail
This spell is kind of weird and hard to describe. Hold down the button and run around. You will trail a glowing green thing. When you release (or wait too long), the glowing thing begins to change to poison gas, starting at the far end and working its way toward your character. Beware, the gas hurts you too, so don’t stay in one spot.
Ring of Rot
This spell just makes the poison cloud from Rotting Corpses appear around your character. Hold down until everything’s dead or you run out of juice.
Shock Ring
Press the button and you get Shock in all directions.
Wall of Skulls
This one substitutes skulls instead of swords in the Sword Wall spell, but with less damage and a longer duration.
Wildfire
This spell is a bit wild, hence the name. It fires a sort of fireball/lightning spell (looks the same as the Firemissile spell). When the lobbed thingies hit, the floor will usually spawn a bunch more, which go bouncing off themselves, spawning some, for a good two or three cycles. Hitting an enemy can do the same thing, but on a more impressive scale. To really get it, you have to see it. (Beware that your computer may run out of brains or some such, limiting the use of this spell and other spells.)
Wild Light
This spell is a variation of the Faere Light. Press the button and lights start appearing by your hand. Run and make a line or try a bit of doodling. As with the Continual Light spell, you soon run out of game or computer brains or some such. This is mainly a novelty item, as it tends to run out said brains very quickly. The Continual Light spell is a better spell for actual use.
Wintery Blast
Similar to the Frosting spell, but it doesn’t “stutter”, meaning that it fires continuously.
Blue Dancing Lights
This spell creates a Faerie Light and a cloud of dancing blue lights that slowly rise up. The cloud of lights increases as long as you keep the spell on. (Due to the amount of light, this can cause problems with other spells.)
Red Dancing Lights
Same as the Blue Dancing Lights, but with red lights.
Flaming Missile
This spell is basically Magic Missiles with flames trailing from them and an explosion of fire when they hit. Damage is the same as that of a normal Missile, but is FIRE, not ZAP.
Red Missile
Another personalized spell, this is Magic Missiles with a red core and trail to them. No change in any other way.
Crimson Bolts
Another variation of the Magic Missile spell. Red balls of light that deal FIRE damage equal to a standard Magic Missile.
Darkness
This spell creates a cloud of utter black around the caster, just like a Blind Spot. It still needs work in that the computer AI is not impressed by it in the least. In other words, the monsters see right through it.
So, any thoughts, comments, and/or insults? (I thought some of these might provide inspiration by the way, not all of it is intended to give me a Egoboo "egoboo". ) _________________ The thing I've noticed about common sense is that it is an uncommon trait. |

Add in a couple more:
Waterwalk
Exactly what it sounds like, this spell allows one to walk on water. You still need to take care not to drop it in the water though.
Tree Wall/Tree
This spell is still in the works. The idea is to create two versions. One is just a Sword Wall sort of thing with trees, and the other is a single tree. (I’m not sure what use the single tree would be good for, but it seems kind of cool in my mind’s eye.) _________________ The thing I've noticed about common sense is that it is an uncommon trait. |

Cool... Another simple, but useful utility spell.
Balefire? Sounds as something from Wheel of Time

Egoboo supports currently (As from version 2.3.6 and later) up to 512 different particles at the same time in a module. Surplus particles without force spawn will not be spawned. Creating permanent particles trough a spell is usually bad - unless you add an sustain mana cost (But then you would need some way to dispel it again too).

Sounds a lot like my Skull Trap spell from the Catacomb Level 2 module
Healing spells are a no-no for arcane spellcasters. If you like to make new spells, maybe you would like to work on some new type divine spells? I've been planning on adding a whole new set of new types of spells called Runes. These are just like spellbooks, but work for healers and paladins. Only holy rune ive added yet is the Holy Symbol (Which is a little bugged because it can only be used by arcane users).

AI in egoboo is not programmed to register or understand darkness. One solution you could do is give any enemy creature inside the darkness the Daze effect, which would work like they become confused in the darkness.
Well here are my little works:
Summoning Spells I, II and III (Arcane)
These books summon different types of monsters (Crabs, Magic oozes, etc. depending on it's type I, II or III, etc.). Intelligence improves the power, skill and speed of the monsters.
Rune of Restoration (Divine)
Restores and dispels all curses and negative effects on the target player (Poison, level drain, burns, freezes, binds, dazes, etc.). Also restores ALL hit points. Can also be used to heal the caster him/herself. Higher level spell that costs more mana. I'm thinking of also allowing it to remove cursed items.
Rune of Ressurection (Divine)
Magical rune that raises your mount or teamate from the dead. Higher level spell.
Rune of Mass Heal (Divine)
Heals all friendlies in range. _________________ Zefz - Community Leader

Yeah, I was somewhat pleased with my Waterwalk. Most of my spells are made to kill everything that moves and sometimes things that don't.
Balefire from Wheel of Time? Well actually, I had read Wheel of Time and the name stuck out in my memory even though the spell isn't much like Balefire. (It is not Robert Jorden's creation though, the name existed before him.)
OK, "supports... up to 512 different particles at the same time". Sounds much better than running out of brains.
I know the divine spells are a no-no, but I thought they might be fun for personal use (read cheat) anyway. But, wait, how do you make the divine spells? I mean, I create wizard spells by taking things from something else and dumping them into a spellbook. What would I dump stuff into for divine magic thingie? Would these Runes be present in the newest version of Egoboo (the one you just put out)?
Speaking of which, I like your divine spells or Runes. Have you made them yet, or are they just plans? How about something that "turns" undead? I know there is that Holy Relic thing, but doesn't it just hurt the undead? _________________ The thing I've noticed about common sense is that it is an uncommon trait. |

I have already made a few runes. Rune spells work a little differently than spellbooks. As you should know by now, all arcane spells become disguised as a "book" object when dropped. Rune spells have each their own model and object (And do not have a common object they derive from, altough they look a little alike). Each rune looks like a stone with a unique symbol on it.
The Holy Symbol of Turning does indeed only do damage. But many undead (Take ghosts and vampires) and even demons get panicked if they are touched by this type of damage (Monster behaviour are determined in their AI script). Some creatures such as the ghost bat are even instantly destroyed by holy damage.
I plan to have the first couple of runes ready for next version. Maybe I will even release just the runes so that other people also can contribute new divine spells. _________________ Zefz - Community Leader
